Over 100 Film Crew Members Hospitalised in Leh After Suspected Food Poisoning

Film crew hospitalised food poisoning

August 18,2025 — More than 100 workers from a film production unit were admitted to SNM Hospital here following a suspected case of mass food poisoning, officials said on Monday.

The patients were brought to the hospital late on Sunday after many complained of acute stomach pain, nausea, vomiting and severe headaches. Hospital authorities confirmed that all admitted crew members are in stable condition and are receiving medical care.

Preliminary information suggests the illness may have been triggered by food served on the set. The catering service that provided the meals is now under scrutiny, and health officials have collected samples for testing. “All patients are stable. The exact cause will be known after the reports are received,” an official said.

The health department has launched an inquiry into the incident, while the production unit has temporarily halted its schedule. Officials have also issued an advisory urging production houses and large work units to ensure proper food storage, hygiene standards and timely distribution to prevent similar episodes.

While no case has been reported as critical, authorities said the crew members will remain under observation for the next 24 hours as a precaution. The incident has also renewed concerns over food safety on film sets, where large groups of workers rely on common catering arrangements during lengthy shoots.
