Foxconn Begins iPhone 17 Production at $2.8 Billion Bengaluru Facility

18 August,2025– Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn has commenced production of Apple’s iPhone 17 at its newly established manufacturing facility in Devanahalli, near Bengaluru, Karnataka. The facility, built with an investment of approximately $2.8 billion (around ₹25,000 crore), is Foxconn’s second-largest manufacturing unit outside China, marking a significant step in Apple’s strategy to diversify its global supply chain.

The Devanahalli plant spans 300 acres and is designed to employ up to 30,000 workers, featuring on-site dormitories for staff. The facility is expected to reach an annual production capacity of 20 million iPhones, contributing to Apple’s goal of manufacturing 60 million units in India this fiscal year—an increase from 35–40 million units in the previous year.

This expansion is part of Apple’s broader plan to reduce its reliance on Chinese manufacturing amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. By strengthening production capabilities in India, the company aims to mitigate supply chain risks while leveraging the country’s growing technological expertise and manufacturing infrastructure.

The establishment of the Devanahalli facility is expected to create over 40,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, spanning manufacturing, logistics, and support services. Experts say the plant will also boost local economies through infrastructure development and increased demand for services, further enhancing Bengaluru’s position as a hub for electronics manufacturing.

While production faced initial challenges due to the sudden departure of several Chinese engineers, Foxconn quickly adapted by deploying experts from Taiwan and other regions, ensuring seamless operations and meeting production targets.

Industry analysts note that the Bengaluru facility aligns with Apple’s ‘China Plus One’ strategy, aimed at diversifying its manufacturing footprint and reducing dependence on China. The move also strengthens Apple’s position in the Indian market and increases resilience against global supply chain disruptions.

With the commencement of iPhone 17 production, the Devanahalli facility is set to play a crucial role in Apple’s global manufacturing network, highlighting India’s emerging role as a major player in the electronics production sector.
