Samsung Begins Laptop Manufacturing at Greater Noida Facility, Expands India Portfolio

August 18, 2025 — Samsung Electronics has officially started manufacturing laptops at its Greater Noida plant, marking a significant expansion of its production portfolio in India, a company source told PTI. The move comes as part of Samsung’s strategy to diversify its local manufacturing operations, which have traditionally focused on smartphones, feature phones, wearables, and tablets.

The Greater Noida facility, operational since 1996 and previously recognized as one of the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturing units, has now been upgraded to include a state-of-the-art laptop production line. Industry experts see this as a strategic step aligning with India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives, which aim to boost domestic manufacturing and reduce import dependence.

A senior government official noted that Samsung’s expansion is “driven by talent and innovation,” reflecting India’s growing importance in the global electronics supply chain. The local production of laptops is expected to not only lower costs and enhance price competitiveness but also create employment opportunities in the region.

While Samsung has a strong presence in the Indian smartphone and tablet markets, its footprint in the laptop segment has been limited. By manufacturing laptops locally, the company aims to strengthen its position in the competitive market, meet rising domestic demand, and potentially explore export opportunities in the future.

Samsung has not disclosed the specific models or production volumes planned for the Greater Noida plant. However, analysts expect that this expansion will help Samsung offer more affordable, high-quality devices and reinforce its commitment to India as a key manufacturing hub.

This development underscores Samsung’s ongoing efforts to broaden its product offerings in India and contributes to the country’s broader vision of becoming a global electronics manufacturing center.
