August 19,2025 : Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has described stable ties between Beijing and New Delhi as essential for the “long-term interests of both nations,” following his meeting with India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. The rare high-level talks highlighted a mutual willingness to improve relations after years of tension along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Doval noted that the border areas have remained “largely peaceful” in recent months, an outcome he linked to continuing dialogue between the two sides. He expressed confidence that sustained communication could help maintain calm on the frontier, which has been a source of friction since the clashes of 2020.
Wang Yi, in turn, emphasised that cooperation between Asia’s two largest economies carried regional and global significance. “For the long-term stability and prosperity of both our countries, China and India should work together, not against each other,” he remarked, according to officials present at the talks.
Economic Engagement on the Table
An important aspect of the discussions focused on trade and resource supplies. Chinese officials conveyed that Beijing would seek to meet India’s requirements for rare earth minerals, fertilizers, and tunnelling equipment. These resources are critical to India’s infrastructure expansion and clean energy ambitions.
Observers believe the gesture indicates China’s intent to address India’s longstanding concerns about trade imbalances. By offering greater access to strategic materials, Beijing appears to be signalling a more pragmatic approach to economic cooperation.

The meeting comes just weeks before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. This would be Modi’s first trip to Beijing in seven years and is likely to set the tone for the next phase of bilateral engagement.
Analysts argue that both nations are seeking a diplomatic reset amid shifting global circumstances, including renewed trade disputes with the United States and instability in wider Asian geopolitics.
