August 20,2025 – The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the development of a greenfield airport at Kota-Bundi in Rajasthan with an estimated investment of ₹1,507 crore.
According to the government statement, the project will be developed under the Greenfield Airports Policy and is aimed at enhancing air connectivity in southern Rajasthan. The airport is expected to handle two million passengers annually and provide a major boost to regional trade, tourism, and industrial growth.
Officials stated that the proposed airport will be developed in a public-private partnership model with the Airports Authority of India providing regulatory and technical support. The airport will feature modern passenger amenities, cargo facilities, and will be designed with sustainable and energy-efficient infrastructure.
The CCEA also informed that the project will generate significant employment opportunities, both during construction and in operations. Around 2,000 direct jobs and many more indirect jobs are expected to be created in allied sectors including hospitality, logistics, and transport.
Kota, known as an educational hub and an industrial center, currently lacks direct air connectivity. The new airport at Kota-Bundi is expected to serve students, residents, and businesses by providing better access to domestic and international destinations. Officials emphasized that this development will also promote tourism in the Hadoti region of Rajasthan, which has been seeking improved infrastructure for several years.
The government further highlighted that this airport forms part of its broader infrastructure expansion plan aimed at improving regional connectivity. Over the past decade, the Centre has cleared multiple new greenfield airports under the UDAN scheme to strengthen tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
The approved project is scheduled to be completed within four years of commencement, subject to environmental and statutory clearances. Land acquisition for the project is already in progress with support from the Rajasthan government.
With this approval, Rajasthan is set to add another modern airport to its aviation map, after Jaipur, Udaipur, and Jodhpur, thereby improving accessibility and contributing to the state’s economic growth.
