August 30,2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has concluded his two-day visit to Japan and reached China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit 2025 in Tianjin.

In Tokyo, Mr. Modi held talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on strengthening the India-Japan Strategic Partnership. The discussions covered semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), clean energy, and infrastructure projects. Japan is expected to invest about ¥10 trillion (USD 68 billion) in India over the next decade.

The two leaders visited the Tokyo Electron semiconductor facility in Sendai, underlining technology cooperation. They also travelled together by bullet train, symbolising enhanced connectivity between the two nations.

From Japan, Mr. Modi departed for Tianjin to join leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the SCO Summit 2025. The summit will focus on regional security, economic cooperation, and India-China relations.

Mr. Modi’s visit highlights India’s dual approach of building technology ties with Japan while engaging in multilateral diplomacy through the SCO.
