September 2025: Pune has unveiled its longest flyover today on Sinhagad Road, a major step toward easing the city’s traffic congestion. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the 2.6-kilometre elevated road, which links Rajaram Bridge to Fun Time Theatre. The ceremony saw the presence of senior officials, including Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) undertook the project at a cost of ₹118 crore. Construction was carried out in three parts. The first part, a 520-metre stretch near Rajaram Bridge Chowk, was completed in 2024. The second part, extending 2.1 kilometres to Fun Time Theatre, opened in May 2025. The final segment, connecting Goyal Ganga Chowk to Inamdar Chowk, became operational today.
City officials said the flyover would greatly reduce travel time along Sinhagad Road. What used to take 30 minutes at six major junctions can now be covered in five to six minutes. The elevated road is expected to benefit over 1.5 lakh daily commuters, including buses, taxis, and private vehicles.
The flyover will also help improve traffic on nearby roads connecting Dhayari, Nanded City, Vadgaon Budruk, Khadakwasla, Narhe, and the Mumbai–Bengaluru Highway. Authorities added that smoother traffic will lead to lower fuel use and fewer vehicle emissions.
Some intersections, such as Wadgaon Budruk Chowk, experienced minor congestion in the first hours. The PMC and traffic police are taking steps, including signal adjustments and minor road changes, to ensure smooth flow.
With the opening of this flyover, Pune has strengthened its transport infrastructure, promising long-term relief for commuters.
