Convict Shot Dead Inside Patna Hospital, CCTV Footage Reveals Chilling Crime

Chandan Mishra murder

July 17,2025: A convicted prisoner, Chandan Mishra, was shot dead inside Paras HMRI Hospital in Patna on Wednesday, sending shockwaves across Bihar and raising serious questions over the state’s law and order situation. Mishra, who was out on parole for medical treatment, was attacked by five armed assailants in broad daylight. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the hospital premises.

According to police officials, Chandan Mishra had been granted parole on medical grounds and was undergoing treatment at the hospital under police watch. Despite the presence of security personnel, the attackers managed to storm the facility and open fire on Mishra, killing him on the spot. Hospital staff and patients were left in panic as the gunshots rang out across the hospital floors.

Senior officials from Patna Police reached the scene soon after the incident and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the hospital is being closely examined, and multiple police teams have been deployed to trace and apprehend the attackers.

“This was a well-planned and targeted attack. We are probing all possible angles including gang rivalry and lapses in police escort. Initial findings suggest the involvement of organized crime,” said Senior Superintendent of Police Rajeev Mishra.

Sources suggest the attackers may have conducted a prior recce of the hospital, as they directly approached Mishra’s location and executed the attack with precision. Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting, leaving behind chaos and fear.

The incident has sparked a political uproar in the state. Opposition leaders have criticized the Nitish Kumar government for failing to maintain law and order. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating, “If criminals can walk into hospitals and shoot people dead, no place is safe in Bihar anymore. The government has completely lost control.”

In response, the ruling Janata Dal (United) said that the matter is under investigation and assured strict action against the culprits. “The government is taking this case very seriously. Those responsible will not be spared,” a JD(U) spokesperson stated.

Meanwhile, legal experts and former police officers have expressed concern over the way parole is being granted to convicted criminals. They emphasized the need for tighter monitoring and stronger escort protocols for high-risk prisoners.

“This incident has exposed serious flaws in the current system. Granting parole must be followed with strict security arrangements, especially in public places like hospitals,” said former Bihar DGP Abhayanand.

As the investigation continues, Patna Police are under pressure to make quick arrests and restore public confidence in the law enforcement system. The murder of a convict inside a hospital under police custody has once again brought Bihar’s fragile security environment into sharp focus.
