7 July, 2025-A heartbreaking incident occurred on Monday when an engineering student tried to end his life by jumping off Rajaram Bridge. Prompt action by the city fire brigade helped save the young man’s life, avoiding what could have been a fatal outcome.
Officials confirmed that an emergency call was received around 9:30 AM, alerting authorities about a young man standing dangerously close to the edge of the bridge. Fire brigade personnel reached the location quickly and attempted to speak with the distressed individual. Despite their efforts, he jumped into the river below.
Fortunately, the rescue team had already positioned themselves under the bridge with safety gear, anticipating such a move. Within moments, they managed to pull the student out of the water. He was found semi-conscious and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical staff later confirmed that he was stable and recovering.
The individual has been identified as a second-year engineering student from a local college. Preliminary reports suggest he may have been dealing with intense academic and personal stress. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the attempt.
Mental health professionals have been consulted to assist in the student’s recovery and to provide a full evaluation of his psychological condition.
This incident has once again drawn attention to the rising levels of stress and mental health challenges among college students. Experts continue to raise concerns over increasing academic demands, emotional pressure, and insufficient mental health resources in educational institutions.
Responding to the incident, the fire department urged colleges to reinforce support systems such as counseling services and mental health workshops. They also encouraged families and friends to stay observant and to take any signs of emotional distress seriously.
Speaking after the rescue, the head of the fire brigade praised his team’s coordination: “Our quick response made all the difference. It’s a relief to see that the student is safe. We hope he receives all the emotional and psychological support he needs.”
As discussions around student mental health intensify, this case highlights the need for stronger preventive systems to identify and help those at risk before they reach a breaking point.
