4 July, 2025-A major fire broke out on Thursday night near the vicinity of the renowned Tirupati temple, causing significant damage to nearby shops and raising concerns among devotees. While the blaze triggered widespread panic in the area, officials have confirmed that the historic Sri Venkateswara temple remained completely unaffected by the incident.
The fire reportedly began around 10:30 PM in a cluster of commercial establishments situated near the temple’s entrance. According to eyewitness accounts, flames rapidly engulfed several souvenir shops, eateries, and makeshift stalls catering to pilgrims. Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene and managed to bring the situation under control after several hours of intensive effort.
Authorities have stated that no casualties or injuries were reported, although property damage is said to be substantial. Preliminary estimates suggest that over 20 shops were either completely gutted or partially damaged in the incident. Fire officials are currently investigating the exact cause of the blaze, with initial suspicion pointing towards an electrical short circuit.
In a press briefing held early Friday morning, officials from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the temple’s administrative body, assured the public that the temple itself is entirely secure and all religious activities are proceeding as scheduled. “There is no threat to the sanctum or temple premises. The fire was restricted to commercial stalls outside the main compound,” a TTD spokesperson confirmed.

Many have now called for stricter safety regulations and improved fire prevention infrastructure around such densely populated zones.
Local traders, meanwhile, expressed anguish over the loss of their livelihoods. “All our stock was lost in minutes. It will take months to recover,” said one shop owner whose store was completely destroyed. The district administration has promised a survey of the losses and assured compensation and assistance to affected vendors.
Social media platforms were flooded with videos and images of the massive fire, with many users initially fearing damage to the sacred temple itself. However, authorities were quick to dispel rumors and emphasize the safety of the shrine.
