July 17, 2025

In a significant update to its artificial intelligence offerings, Google has rolled out Gemini 2.5 Pro and Deep Search within its AI Mode, available exclusively to paid subscribers. The move marks another step in Google’s push to transform its core search experience through generative AI, while adding productivity-driven features such as agentic capabilities that allow the AI to autonomously interact with real-world businesses.

The upgraded Gemini 2.5 Pro model introduces more refined reasoning and response accuracy, enhancing the AI Mode’s ability to tackle complex and nuanced queries. With improved contextual understanding, users can now expect deeper and more personalized search results that go beyond standard keyword matching.

Accompanying this is Deep Search, a feature designed to provide comprehensive and intent-driven results. Unlike traditional search functions, Deep Search aims to understand the user’s underlying needs, surfacing highly relevant content summaries, logical comparisons, and broader topic digests. According to Google, the feature is ideal for research-heavy tasks and information gathering.

These advanced tools are currently limited to users subscribed to the Google One AI Premium plan, reflecting Google’s ongoing strategy to monetize its generative AI capabilities. The premium subscription also serves as a gateway to other Gemini-related features across Google Workspace apps such as Docs, Sheets, and Gmail.

In addition to improved search intelligence, Google is also introducing an agentic feature to AI Mode. This new capability allows the AI assistant to call businesses on behalf of users to obtain information about pricing, availability, and services. The functionality mirrors aspects of Google Duplex and is expected to be rolled out gradually to supported regions and languages.

Industry experts believe these updates signal a shift in how major tech companies are approaching AI utility. As Microsoft continues to expand OpenAI integrations in its products, Google is reinforcing its ecosystem with proprietary models and AI tools that are directly integrated into its widely-used services.

With the addition of Gemini 2.5 Pro, Deep Search, and real-world action features, Google aims to not only improve information accessibility but also redefine the role of AI in everyday user tasks. The company has not confirmed if or when these features will be available to free users.
