Google has announced a massive investment of up to USD 6 billion to establish a hyperscale data centre in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, marking its biggest infrastructure commitment in India to date. The facility, once operational, will also stand as the largest Google data centre in Asia outside Taiwan and Singapore.
The project will be developed in phases and is expected to have a total capacity of one gigawatt, making it one of the most advanced data hubs globally. Of the total investment, around USD 2 billion will be directed towards renewable energy projects to power the facility sustainably. The company has underscored that the data centre will rely on green energy to minimize its carbon footprint, aligning with its global pledge to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030.
