Govt Advises Indians to Leave Tehran Amid Escalating Tensions

Government of India issues urgent travel advisory for Indian nationals in Tehran amid rising tensions in Iran

The Government of India has issued an urgent advisory asking all Indian nationals residing in Tehran, Iran, to leave the city immediately due to growing regional tensions and rising security concerns.

According to an official statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday, the advisory comes in view of the deteriorating situation in Iran, especially in its capital city. The Indian Embassy in Tehran has urged all citizens to avoid non-essential travel and to remain vigilant at all times.

“In view of the current situation in Tehran, all Indian nationals are advised to leave the city at the earliest. Those who are planning to visit Iran are advised to postpone their travel plans until further notice,” the advisory stated.

The Indian Embassy has also activated emergency helpline numbers and requested all citizens to register themselves and provide updated contact details for ease of communication during emergencies.

Reports from Tehran suggest a rise in military activity and internal disturbances over the past few days. Security forces have been deployed in sensitive areas, and several countries have already issued similar advisories to their nationals.

Officials from the MEA confirmed that they are in constant touch with Indian citizens in Iran and are closely monitoring the situation. Preparations are being made for possible evacuation efforts, if necessary.

Air India and other Indian carriers have been alerted, and discussions are ongoing regarding the scheduling of additional flights to facilitate the safe return of citizens. The Indian Embassy is also in contact with local authorities to ensure the safe passage of Indian nationals to the airport and other exit points.

Indian nationals in Iran, especially students and professionals, have expressed concern and have started making arrangements to return. Community groups and local coordinators are assisting fellow citizens with travel-related queries and updates.

The advisory specifically warns against attending public gatherings, protests, or visiting areas known for unrest. Citizens have also been cautioned against spreading rumours and unverified news on social media platforms.

This is not the first time India has had to issue such advisories in conflict zones. In the past, similar actions were taken during crises in Ukraine, Sudan, and Israel. The government has reiterated its commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad.

The MEA continues to assess the ground situation and has assured that any further developments will be communicated through official channels.
