An explosion at a chemical factory in Hyderabad’s IDA Bollaram industrial zone on Sunday morning resulted in the deaths of at least five people, with several others injured and feared trapped. Emergency response teams are actively conducting search and rescue operations at the site.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 AM when a suspected chemical reaction led to a powerful blast, causing a fire and widespread panic in the area. Thick smoke was seen rising from the facility, and the force of the explosion reportedly damaged nearby structures.
Authorities confirmed that around 15 employees were inside the facility when the explosion took place. Rescue operations are being carried out by the fire department and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), while injured workers have been shifted to nearby government hospitals for urgent treatment. Several remain in critical condition.
Initial reports indicate that a hazardous reaction during routine processing may have triggered the blast. Officials from the Telangana Pollution Control Board and local police are on-site to investigate the cause and examine whether safety regulations were followed.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed his condolences and announced compensation of ₹5 lakh for the families of the deceased. He has also assured that all medical expenses for the injured will be covered by the state government. Orders have been issued to launch a thorough investigation into the incident and take strict action if negligence is found.
Residents living near the industrial area have raised concerns over repeated accidents in the zone and called for stricter oversight of chemical factories. The explosion has reignited debate over the enforcement of workplace safety standards in Telangana’s industrial belts.
Rescue efforts are ongoing, and further details are expected as the situation develops.
