Mumbai, June 3, 2025 — The Maharashtra government is set to inaugurate the last 76-kilometer portion of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, linking Igatpuri in Nashik district to Amane in Thane district, on June 5, 2025. This event will mark the completion of the entire 701-kilometer expressway, significantly enhancing connectivity between Mumbai and Nagpur.
This new segment, constructed at an estimated cost of ₹1,182 crore, includes three key interchanges located at Igatpuri, Kutghar, and Amane. One of the standout engineering features of this stretch is the 7.8-kilometer tunnel through Kasara Ghat, which is the longest road tunnel in India. This tunnel will help reduce travel time and improve safety through the hilly terrain.
Once operational, the expressway is expected to cut the travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur by nearly half—from around 16 hours to approximately 8 hours—allowing vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 150 km/h. The highway crosses 10 districts and more than 390 villages, providing vital infrastructure to promote regional development.
The Samruddhi Expressway represents a major infrastructure initiative by the Maharashtra government, aiming to boost economic growth, improve trade routes, and promote tourism in the state. Its completion is seen as a significant step toward enhancing Maharashtra’s transport network.
The inauguration will be held at Igatpuri, with the expressway opening to the public immediately afterward. This development is poised to bring substantial benefits in terms of travel efficiency and economic opportunities for Maharashtra’s residents.
