India secured a hard-fought 21-run victory over Oman in a Group A match of the 2025 Asia Cup at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. The win ensured India remained unbeaten in the group stage and topped the table ahead of the Super 4 stage.
Opting to bat first, India posted a total of 188/8 in 20 overs. Sanju Samson led the innings with a well-compiled half-century, while Abhishek Sharma contributed a steady 38 runs. Oman’s bowlers, led by Shah Faisal, Aamir Kaleem, and Jiten Ramanandi, shared the wickets evenly, creating consistent pressure throughout India’s innings.
Chasing 189, Oman fought valiantly, with openers Jatinder Singh and Aamir Kaleem putting together a 56-run stand. Kaleem’s aggressive knock of 64 and Hammad Mirza’s 51 kept Oman within striking distance. Their 93-run partnership for the second wicket brought the visitors close to the target, raising hopes of a possible upset.
However, India’s bowlers, particularly Hardik Pandya and Harshit Rana, struck at crucial moments to derail Oman’s chase. Arshdeep Singh’s precise death-over bowling sealed the contest, restricting Oman to 167/4.
Hardik Pandya emerged as a standout performer for India, not just with the ball but also in the field. His spectacular one-handed boundary catch to dismiss Aamir Kaleem proved to be a turning point in the match, earning widespread acclaim for his all-round contribution.
With the win, India confirmed their position at the top of Group A and demonstrated squad depth and preparedness for the Super 4 stage. Oman, despite the defeat, impressed in their debut Asia Cup appearance, signaling their potential as emerging competitors in T20 cricket.
The match highlighted the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket and underscored India’s ability to maintain focus in every contest, even in dead-rubber games.
