Indian Airports on Maximum Alert Amid Terror Threat Warning from BCAS

BCAS advisory August 2025

August 7, 2025
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has issued a critical security advisory to all airports across India, directing authorities to enforce heightened vigilance between September 22 and October 2, 2025. The alert comes amid concerns over potential threats from extremist groups or disruptive individuals during this sensitive period.

The timeframe includes important national dates such as the anniversary of the 2008 Delhi serial blasts and Gandhi Jayanti. Historically, such periods have witnessed increased security risks, prompting the government to act preemptively.

According to the advisory, airport operators, security personnel, and airlines are instructed to implement maximum security protocols. These include intensified screening procedures, increased deployment of personnel, and tighter access control across all terminals and restricted zones.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), responsible for guarding civil airports in India, has been directed to conduct round-the-clock patrolling, enhance perimeter security, and maintain high-level preparedness for any emergency situation.

“Airports are strategic locations that require elevated security, especially during nationally significant days. All agencies are expected to remain alert and follow the updated security guidelines without any deviation,” a senior civil aviation official said.

As part of the heightened measures, passenger movements will be closely monitored through CCTV surveillance, manual checks, and sniffer dog patrols. Authorities have also advised airports to suspend visitor entry passes, tighten vehicle inspections, and ensure readiness of all emergency response systems.

Airlines have been asked to remain cautious during boarding, check-in, and baggage handling, and staff are being trained to report any irregular behavior or suspicious items without delay. The directive also emphasizes the importance of daily security assessments during the alert window.

Though the alert is precautionary in nature, sources suggest it is based on both historical patterns and a general increase in online extremist chatter. Intelligence agencies are working closely with airport security to identify and mitigate any credible threats.

Travelers flying during this period are encouraged to arrive early, cooperate with security checks, and avoid carrying restricted items to reduce delays. Passengers are also advised to report anything unusual to security officials immediately.

The BCAS has reiterated that the enhanced security measures are temporary and preventive, introduced to safeguard public safety and ensure uninterrupted air travel during a potentially high-risk period.
