Infosys Foundation to Invest ₹48 Crore for Improving Maternal and Child Healthcare in Karnataka’s Villages

Infosys Foundation pledges ₹48 crore to uplift rural maternal and child healthcare in Karnataka.

In a strong step towards addressing rural healthcare challenges, the Infosys Foundation has announced a ₹48 crore initiative focused on enhancing maternal and child health services across rural Karnataka. This investment aims to close healthcare gaps for women and children living in remote areas by strengthening facilities, training staff, and improving access to essential services.

The philanthropic arm of Infosys, the Infosys Foundation, will fund a wide-ranging health program that supports infrastructure upgrades, supplies medical equipment, and provides training for healthcare workers in Karnataka’s rural districts. This effort is part of the Foundation’s ongoing work in the public health sector and aligns with the state’s development goals.

Funds will be directed towards:

  • Renovating and equipping Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs)
  • Supporting safe childbirth practices and increasing institutional deliveries
  • Operating mobile clinics to bring medical services to hard-to-reach populations
  • Organizing community programs to raise awareness about maternal nutrition, immunization, and hygiene
  • Upskilling healthcare workers including midwives, nurses, and field staff

In a public statement, Sudha Murty, Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, said,
“Quality healthcare should be accessible to every mother and child, regardless of geography. This project is our step toward ensuring no one is left behind in receiving proper medical attention during such crucial stages of life.”

This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to reducing maternal mortality and infant deaths, particularly in backward districts where healthcare infrastructure is often overstretched. It also supports India’s efforts to meet Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3), especially in areas related to maternal and newborn health.

The Karnataka Health Department has welcomed the initiative and will be working closely with the Foundation to ensure effective execution on the ground. Officials say the initiative has the potential to reach thousands of beneficiaries annually and could serve as a model for future public-private partnerships in healthcare.

Medical professionals have praised the comprehensive scope of the project, pointing out that it not only focuses on infrastructure but also strengthens the entire healthcare delivery chain—from diagnostics to awareness and capacity building.
