Jaishankar to Visit US for Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Jaishankar to attend key Quad talks in US next week

New Delhi, June 30:
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to visit the United States in early July to participate in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, a key diplomatic engagement involving India, the US, Japan, and Australia. The meeting is expected to focus on regional security, maritime cooperation, and emerging technologies, amid heightened strategic concerns in the Indo-Pacific region.

Officials from the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that Jaishankar’s visit underscores India’s growing role in the Quad alliance and its commitment to a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific. The meeting will serve as a platform for discussions on global and regional issues, including China’s assertiveness in the South China Sea, resilient supply chains, counter-terrorism, and cooperation in advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

On the sidelines of the Quad meeting, Jaishankar is also likely to hold bilateral talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The discussions are expected to cover a wide range of topics, including defense partnerships, trade and investment, clean energy initiatives, and shared concerns over the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The Quad, formally known as the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, has gained momentum in recent years, especially as member nations emphasize the need for strategic collaboration to ensure stability in the Indo-Pacific. While not a formal military alliance, the grouping has been instrumental in promoting maritime security, infrastructure development, vaccine diplomacy, and climate resilience.

Jaishankar’s upcoming visit comes shortly after the G7 summit in Italy and ahead of several multilateral engagements in the latter half of the year. Analysts view this trip as an opportunity for India to reinforce its strategic partnerships and continue advancing its foreign policy priorities, particularly under the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF).

The meeting will also serve as a platform to coordinate responses to transnational threats and explore avenues for deeper cooperation in infrastructure connectivity and digital governance.

The visit is expected to further strengthen India’s ties with its Quad partners and emphasize its growing influence in global strategic affairs.
