August 28, 2025: The GSB Seva Mandal of Matunga has once again made headlines with its grand Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, widely regarded as Mumbai’s most lavish. For this year’s festival, the mandal has decorated its Mahaganapati idol with over 69 kg of gold and more than 336 kg of silver, showcasing extraordinary grandeur and devotion.
This year, the mandal has secured a record insurance cover of ₹474.46 crore, reflecting the scale and value of the celebrations. The policy includes ₹67 crore covering the idol’s gold, silver, and ornaments; ₹375 crore for personal accident protection for priests, volunteers, and staff; ₹30 crore for public liability; and ₹2 crore against fire or natural disasters.
Organizers noted that the increase from last year’s policy stems from the higher valuation of precious metals and the growing number of personnel involved in the festival. The festivities began on August 27, 2025, and will continue for five days, drawing thousands of devotees each day.
In addition to its lavish display, the mandal has prioritized environmentally friendly practices, adopting steps to reduce pollution and promote sustainability.
The GSB Seva Mandal continues to be a symbol of faith, grandeur, and careful planning, setting a standard for Mumbai’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
