Nutritionists Recommend Apple Cider Vinegar to Ease Bloating and Gas

Apple cider vinegar may help reduce bloating and gas, say experts.

Apple cider vinegar (ACV), a staple in traditional wellness remedies, is gaining popularity among nutritionists and health experts as an effective natural aid for relieving bloating and gas. With digestive issues becoming increasingly common due to lifestyle and dietary habits, many are turning to ACV for relief.

According to nutritionists, the primary compound in ACV, acetic acid, plays a crucial role in digestion. It is believed to stimulate stomach acid production, which improves food breakdown and reduces fermentation in the gut—one of the leading causes of gas and bloating.

Apple cider vinegar supports better digestion by enhancing stomach acid levels and aiding in nutrient absorption,” said Dr. Meera Deshmukh, a clinical nutritionist based in Mumbai. “Its regular use, when diluted properly, can significantly ease digestive discomfort.”

Experts recommend consuming 1 to 2 teaspoons of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar diluted in a glass of warm water, preferably 15–30 minutes before meals. This method is said to prepare the digestive system for food intake, reducing the chances of bloating.

However, health professionals also warn against overuse or consuming it in undiluted form. Due to its acidity, undiluted ACV can damage tooth enamel and irritate the throat. Those suffering from acid reflux, ulcers, or chronic gastrointestinal conditions are advised to consult a healthcare provider before including it in their diet.

Although scientific research on ACV’s effects on bloating is still limited, preliminary findings and anecdotal reports suggest that it may promote gut health, regulate digestion, and improve satiety. Experts agree that while it may not serve as a cure-all, it can be a helpful addition to a digestive wellness routine.

It should be seen as a supportive measure, not a standalone solution,” said Priya Sinha, a registered dietitian. “Pairing apple cider vinegar with a fiber-rich diet, probiotics, and hydration offers the best results.”

As interest in natural remedies for digestion grows, apple cider vinegar continues to find a place in everyday wellness practices. With appropriate use and medical guidance, it may provide a safe and affordable way to reduce gas and bloating symptoms.
