Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch development projects worth ₹5,700 crore in Bihar today, in a significant boost to the state’s infrastructure and public services. The launch event is scheduled around 12 noon, following which the Prime Minister will address a public gathering.
The projects span across key sectors including railways, roadways, urban development, and healthcare. As part of the Centre’s continued push to strengthen infrastructure in eastern India, the Prime Minister’s visit is expected to highlight the government’s development-focused agenda in Bihar ahead of the 2025 state elections.
Railway infrastructure forms a major part of the initiatives, with new lines, electrification, and modernization of key railway stations such as Patna Junction and Gaya included in the package. These are aimed at improving travel efficiency, reducing congestion, and enhancing passenger amenities.
In the road sector, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for major highway projects and rural connectivity works under the Bharatmala Pariyojana and the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. These projects are expected to improve transportation and accessibility in remote and flood-prone areas of the state.
Urban infrastructure initiatives include the launch of sewage treatment plants, piped water supply systems, and drainage improvements in cities like Patna and Muzaffarpur. These are intended to address long-standing civic issues and improve the overall quality of life for urban residents.
The health sector will also receive a major upgrade, with new medical college buildings, diagnostic centres, and modern healthcare facilities being inaugurated across the state. These efforts aim to strengthen Bihar’s health infrastructure, especially in rural and semi-urban areas.
Officials said that the projects are aligned with the Centre’s “PM Gati Shakti” initiative and the “Aspirational Districts Programme,” which focus on fast-tracking development in lagging regions.
Tight security arrangements have been put in place for the Prime Minister’s visit, and a large turnout is expected at the public meeting.
With the launch of these multi-sectoral projects, the government aims to accelerate economic development in Bihar and improve essential services for its citizens. The move also signals a politically strategic push by the BJP-led Centre to reinforce its presence in the state ahead of the upcoming elections.
