August 27, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam for a two-day official tour starting September 13, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced today. The detailed itinerary for the visit is yet to be made public.
The tour was shifted from its original date of September 8 due to the upcoming Vice-Presidential elections on September 9. State authorities are coordinating logistics and security arrangements to ensure the visit proceeds smoothly.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to participate in events commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, a prominent singer and cultural figure from Assam. The state government has planned programs to recognize his contributions to music and Assamese culture.
Several infrastructure and development projects are likely to be inaugurated, including the Guwahati Ring Road to improve traffic, a new bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Kuruwa and Narengi, and the foundation stone for Mangaldoi Medical College and Hospital. The Prime Minister will also dedicate a ₹4,200 crore bio-ethanol plant at Numaligarh Refinery, strengthening the state’s industrial and energy sectors.
Chief Minister Sarma has personally reviewed preparations, ensuring all logistical and security measures are in place. Officials are working across departments to facilitate a successful visit.
The two-day visit underscores the government’s focus on enhancing Assam’s infrastructure while honoring its cultural heritage. The planned initiatives are expected to support the state’s social and economic development.
