To reduce traffic congestion and improve passenger convenience, Pune Airport has announced a new rule imposing a ₹500 fine on vehicles that remain parked for more than 15 minutes at Terminal 2. This regulation is now in effect and aims to ensure smoother traffic movement at one of Maharashtra’s rapidly expanding aviation hubs.
The directive has been jointly enforced by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and the Pune Traffic Police. It applies to all vehicles—private and commercial—that overstay beyond the designated 15-minute window at the new terminal’s pick-up and drop-off zones.
According to airport officials, the decision was made in response to growing traffic snarls caused by prolonged vehicle halts, especially during high passenger traffic periods. Surveillance cameras and automatic monitoring systems have been installed at strategic points to track vehicle timings and identify violators.
Terminal 2, which was opened to the public earlier this year, is equipped with expanded infrastructure and upgraded amenities to accommodate the city’s increasing air traffic. However, the influx of vehicles and poor traffic discipline around the terminal’s access roads led to operational challenges, prompting the introduction of this rule.
“The goal is not to penalize but to ensure efficient movement of vehicles and avoid long queues outside the terminal,” said an official from the airport authority. Authorities have also initiated a public awareness campaign by putting up signage and sharing updates through social media and local news outlets.
While the policy has been welcomed by some passengers as a much-needed step toward better traffic regulation, others—particularly ride-hailing drivers—are concerned about the short 15-minute window. Delays due to flight timings or peak traffic can make it difficult to adhere strictly to the time limit.
A local driver associated with an app-based taxi service remarked, “It’s not always possible to pick up a passenger in 15 minutes, especially when there are crowds or delays. There should be a little flexibility.”
In addition to the fine, the Pune Traffic Police have increased personnel deployment near Terminal 2 to assist with implementation and manage vehicle movement. Plans to coordinate with ride-hailing platforms are also underway to better align pick-up scheduling with flight arrivals.
