September 5, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced comprehensive preparations for the upcoming Ganesh Visarjan celebrations scheduled for September 6, 2025. The civic body has prioritized both environmental sustainability and public safety, collaborating with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and deploying thousands of personnel to ensure smooth processions.
Eco-Friendly Initiatives
In an effort to promote sustainable celebrations, the PMC has strongly encouraged the use of eco-friendly idols made from clay and other natural materials, discouraging non-biodegradable substances like plaster of Paris and thermocol. Artificial ponds and designated immersion sites have been set up across the city to facilitate safe and environmentally responsible idol immersion. Additionally, NGOs have been roped in to raise awareness among devotees about the importance of eco-conscious practices during the festivities.
Safety and Crowd Management
To maintain public order and ensure the safety of participants, the PMC has deployed thousands of police personnel, municipal staff, and volunteers across all major immersion points. Traffic diversions have been planned in key areas to prevent congestion, and medical teams have been stationed at strategic locations to handle emergencies. Surveillance through CCTV cameras and drone monitoring will also be in place to track crowd movement and respond promptly to any incidents.
Public Cooperation and Guidelines
PMC officials have appealed to citizens to follow safety protocols, avoid overcrowding, and cooperate with authorities during the Visarjan. Residents are urged to dispose of waste responsibly and utilize designated immersion sites to minimize environmental impact.
With its combined focus on sustainability and public safety, Pune aims to set a benchmark for eco-friendly Ganesh Visarjan celebrations. The PMC’s proactive measures are expected to ensure a festive yet responsible observance, highlighting the city’s commitment to environmental conservation and civic discipline.
