Savitribai Phule Pune University Shifts College Affiliation and Course Approvals Online from 2026–27

SPPU online affiliation system

Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has announced that its college affiliation and course approval processes will move online starting from the academic year 2026–2027. The new platform, called the New College Permission System (NCPS), aims to enhance efficiency, transparency, and speed for all affiliated institutions.

University officials stated that the NCPS will serve as a one-stop digital portal for colleges to apply for new affiliations, renew existing ones, and seek approval for additional courses. The system is expected to minimize paperwork, reduce delays, and provide real-time tracking of applications. According to SPPU, this initiative is in line with the broader push toward digital governance in higher education.

SPPU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Paranjape said the move was necessary to keep pace with the growing demand for new courses and institutions. “By introducing NCPS, we are ensuring that administrative bottlenecks are eliminated and colleges can focus on academic development,” he noted.

Currently, SPPU has over 700 affiliated colleges across Pune, Nashik, and Ahmednagar districts, making it one of the largest universities in India in terms of student enrollment. University authorities emphasized that with such a vast network, a digital approval mechanism is crucial to managing applications at scale.

College principals and education experts have welcomed the decision, highlighting the benefits of transparency and accountability. Many pointed out that manual processes often led to delays and miscommunication. With NCPS, colleges will receive automated updates on their application status, reducing the need for repeated follow-ups.

The university has confirmed that training sessions and workshops will be organized for college administrators to familiarize them with the new system. In addition, a dedicated helpdesk and technical support team will be available during the transition phase.

The introduction of NCPS is also expected to align SPPU with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes digitalization, institutional autonomy, and swift academic expansion. Officials indicated that the system could pave the way for integrating additional services, such as faculty approvals and accreditation support, in the future.

With this move, Savitribai Phule Pune University becomes one of the first major state universities in Maharashtra to adopt a fully online affiliation mechanism. The decision is likely to set a benchmark for other higher education institutions across the country.
