Schools Shut, Roads Diverted Amid Tight Security for Amit Shah’s Visit to Pune Region

AMIT SHAH IN PUNE

4 July, 2025-Due to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit, traffic regulations have been tightened along the Katraj–Uruli Devachi stretch, prompting several schools in the area to remain closed on Friday. The preventive measures are aimed at ensuring smooth traffic flow and heightened security arrangements during the high-level visit.

Local authorities issued a formal advisory detailing the temporary traffic diversions and road closures expected to be in place throughout the day. Major intersections and arterial routes in the region are likely to be affected as the Home Minister’s convoy moves through the area. In light of the potential congestion, multiple educational institutions opted to either suspend physical classes or shift to online modes of learning for the day.

School administrators cited concerns over student safety and logistical challenges as the primary reasons behind the decision. Notifications were sent to parents on Thursday evening, informing them of the closures and suggesting alternate learning arrangements wherever feasible.

The Home Minister’s visit is part of a broader public outreach and development review initiative, with planned stops and interactions scheduled at various points along the Katraj–Uruli Devachi belt. The region, currently undergoing rapid urban development, is being closely monitored for infrastructure planning and expansion projects.

To manage the influx of VIP movement, traffic police have restricted access to several roads, including key junctions near Katraj Tunnel and Hadapsar bypass. Heavy vehicles have been asked to avoid the route during specific hours, while light vehicles are being redirected via alternate pathways. Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and avoid non-essential travel through the affected zones.

Security arrangements have also been significantly ramped up. Additional police forces, surveillance units, and quick response teams have been stationed at multiple locations along the convoy route. Security checkpoints, mobile patrols, and technical monitoring are part of the multi-layered security plan for the day.

While the overall response to the arrangements has been cooperative, some parents and residents expressed concern over the short notice and lack of early communication. Many learned about school closures and diversions only hours before implementation, leading to last-minute disruptions in daily routines.

Officials from the traffic department assured citizens that every effort is being made to balance security needs with minimal public inconvenience. “We are working in coordination with local schools, municipal authorities, and emergency services to ensure the day passes without major disruption,” a senior traffic official stated.

Citizens have been encouraged to follow official channels for live updates on traffic conditions and to remain patient as the day progresses. The visit marks a significant event in the city’s administrative calendar and reflects the region’s growing prominence in national infrastructure planning.
