The Karnataka government has appointed Seemant Singh as the new Police Commissioner of Bengaluru in the aftermath of the recent stampede incident that resulted in multiple casualties.
The decision was announced on Friday by the state’s Home Department, following widespread criticism of police preparedness during the event, which saw a large crowd gather in the city center for a cultural program. The stampede led to the deaths of several individuals and left many injured, prompting an urgent review of public safety measures.
Seemant Singh, a senior police officer with over 20 years of experience, is known for his expertise in managing public order and emergency situations. He has served in various key positions within Karnataka’s police force and is expected to spearhead reforms aimed at improving crowd control and law enforcement effectiveness in Bengaluru.
Chief Minister of Karnataka expressed confidence in Singh’s leadership, stating, “Our focus is to prevent such tragedies in the future and ensure the safety of all citizens. We believe Commissioner Singh will strengthen the police’s capacity to handle large public events.”
The government has also ordered a comprehensive investigation into the stampede to identify lapses and implement stricter safety protocols.
