A sharp escalation in political violence shook Bihar on Friday, when a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was shot at in broad daylight in Khagaria district. The victim, Dilip Kumar — a former General Secretary of the BJP’s Khagaria unit and current Mandal Working Committee member — remains in critical condition as law enforcement agencies launched a high-level investigation and a manhunt for the unidentified assailants.

According to police reports, the shooting occurred near the Gangaur police-station area on November 28, 2025, when assailants opened fire at Kumar in broad daylight. He sustained a serious gunshot wound to his chest. Locals rushed him to Khagaria Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared his condition “extremely critical,” before transferring him to a higher medical centre for advanced treatment.
Kumar, known for his influence in local political and social circles, reportedly managed to call his wife in the aftermath of the attack — his trembling voice conveyed the chilling words: “Someone has shot me… come rescue me.” Within minutes, family members and neighbours reached the spot, and he was taken for medical care.
The sudden attack triggered panic among villagers and party workers. Many described scenes of chaos and shock, expressing alarm over the brazen nature of the crime.
Police response and manhunt launched
Immediately after the incident, the local police under the supervision of the Gangaur police-station in-charge initiated a full-scale investigation.
