“Sonam Claimed She Was Drugged, Brought to UP”: Top Cop Reveals Shocking Details in Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case

Meghalaya honeymoon murder

June 10 – In a disturbing revelation in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, Uttar Pradesh Police have stated that the victim, Sonam Singh, had alleged she was drugged and forcibly taken to Uttar Pradesh by her husband, Vivek Patel. This key piece of information was shared by Sonam with her family days before her tragic death during what was supposed to be a honeymoon trip.

Speaking to reporters, Additional Director General (ADG) of Police Praveen Kumar confirmed, “Sonam had messaged her family, claiming she was drugged and brought to UP against her will.” The case has now drawn national attention, as investigators probe what appears to be a premeditated murder.

Sonam Singh, a 26-year-old woman from Varanasi, was found dead in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya last week. She had travelled to the northeastern state with her husband Vivek Patel, a resident of Mirzapur, just days before her body was discovered near a cliff. The couple had reportedly eloped earlier this year.

Patel initially informed police that Sonam had gone missing during their trip, but inconsistencies in his statements raised suspicions. Authorities soon launched a deeper investigation, uncovering damning digital evidence. Hotel records, CCTV footage, and call data reportedly contradicted Patel’s version of events.

Meghalaya Police, in coordination with Uttar Pradesh Police, took Patel into custody on suspicion of murder. Investigators believe Sonam may have been pushed from the cliff, though they are awaiting the final postmortem and toxicology reports to confirm the cause of death.

Family members of the deceased have alleged a history of domestic violence. “She had informed us that he was abusive, but no one imagined it would come to this,” said a close relative. The family also said they received voice notes and text messages from Sonam days before her death, in which she expressed fear for her life.

Women’s rights activists have condemned the incident and demanded justice. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of the case and issued notices to the police departments in both states, urging a thorough and speedy investigation.

Public outrage continues to grow as the case unfolds, with calls for stricter laws to protect women from domestic abuse and coercion in relationships. The case is being widely followed as more disturbing details are expected to emerge in the coming days.

Police officials said Patel is currently being interrogated, and further charges may be added based on forensic findings and digital evidence.
