Madhya Pradesh | June 10, 2025 — In a major breakthrough in a suspected homicide case, Sonam Raghuvanshi has confessed to the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. The crime, which reportedly took place on May 23, was allegedly carried out with the assistance of her partner, Raj Singh Kushwaha. Both accused were taken into custody earlier this week.
According to senior police officials, the investigation began after Raja Raghuvanshi was reported missing by his family. Preliminary inquiries raised suspicions due to conflicting statements made by his wife. Upon deeper investigation, police uncovered evidence suggesting the murder was planned and executed by Sonam and Raj Singh, who were allegedly involved in an extramarital relationship.
“During interrogation, Sonam admitted that she and Raj plotted the murder to remove Raja from their lives,” an official familiar with the investigation said. “Their plan was executed on May 23, when Raja was taken to a secluded location and killed.”
Technical evidence such as mobile call records, location tracking, and witness accounts played a crucial role in unraveling the case. Authorities believe the motive behind the crime stemmed from the affair between Sonam and Raj, which they attempted to hide from the victim.
The duo has been booked under Sections 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. They are currently in judicial custody, and further proceedings are expected to take place this week.
Local residents expressed shock over the incident, saying there had been no public signs of discord within the family. “It’s hard to process. They lived quietly, and no one imagined something so horrifying could happen,” a neighbour said.
The police have stated that the investigation is ongoing and additional leads are being pursued to determine if any other individuals were involved in the planning or execution of the crime. Authorities also mentioned that forensic analysis is underway to strengthen the case for prosecution.
