SpaceX’s eagerly awaited 10th test flight of its Starship rocket was postponed on Monday due to inclement weather conditions at the company’s Starbase facility in southern Texas. The delay marks another setback in the company’s efforts to advance its fully reusable Mars-bound spacecraft.
The launch, initially planned for Sunday, had been delayed previously due to a fuel leak. Monday’s attempt was thwarted by storm clouds and lightning risks, according to a statement from SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. The company cited safety concerns as the primary reason for rescheduling the mission.
The Starship system, comprising the 71-meter-tall Super Heavy booster and the 52-meter-tall Starship upper stage, is designed to support orbital missions and, ultimately, human travel to Mars. Monday’s mission aimed to test critical aspects of the spacecraft, including payload deployment, in-space refueling, and safe reentry procedures.
Despite the repeated postponements, SpaceX affirmed its commitment to the Starship program and its long-term vision of interplanetary travel. The company has now rescheduled the launch for Tuesday, with a one-hour window beginning at 6:30 p.m. CDT. The flight is expected to carry eight Starlink mass simulators into orbit before returning the Starship safely to splash down in the Indian Ocean.
