Tragic Suicide of 13-Year-Old in Jalna Sparks Probe into Teacher Harassment and Academic Pressure

Jalna school student tragedy

A 13-year-old Class 8 student, Aarohi Deepak Bidla, tragically died by suicide on November 21, 2025, after allegedly jumping from the third floor of her school building in Jalna. The incident has prompted a police investigation and raised serious concerns over mental harassment, bullying, and academic pressure in schools.

A Devastating Morning at School

The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. at the CTMK Gujarati School, shortly after the morning session began. Aarohi was rushed to a private hospital and later transferred to the district civil hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Her father, Deepak Bidla, who works as a sweeper at a private hospital, alleged that Aarohi had been teased by some classmates and had brought the matter to his attention. He claimed that despite advising her to inform the teachers, no action was taken.

Allegations of Harassment and Academic Pressure

Aarohi’s family also accused teachers of mental harassment, claiming that she faced pressure due to her academic performance. According to her father, she feared complaints would be made to her grandmother, who also works at the school as a sanitation worker.

These allegations have prompted authorities to launch a full-scale inquiry. The Jalna police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) while exploring all possible factors, including harassment, bullying, and academic stress.

Investigation Underway

Police officials are conducting a thorough probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. Their efforts include:

  • Interviewing school staff, students, and Aarohi’s family to reconstruct events leading to the incident.
  • Analyzing CCTV footage from the school premises.
  • Conducting a post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death.

Currently, no suicide note has been recovered.

Broader Concerns Over Student Mental Health

The tragedy has reignited concerns about mental health in schools and the pressures faced by young students:

  • Experts and families are calling for stronger emotional support systems within educational institutions.
  • Critics warn that a combination of academic pressure, harassment, and bullying can create a toxic environment for adolescents.
  • Schools are urged to implement counseling services, peer support programs, and grievance redressal mechanisms to safeguard student well-being.
