Trimbakeshwar Temple Gets ‘A’ Grade Tourism Tag from Maharashtra Government

Trimbakeshwar Temple in Nashik awarded ‘A’ grade tourism status by Maharashtra government to boost infrastructure and pilgrimage tourism.

Nashik, July 2 – The Maharashtra government has officially granted the prestigious ‘A’ grade tourism status to the renowned Trimbakeshwar Temple in Nashik district, a major spiritual site and one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.

The announcement was made following a recent cabinet decision under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The move is aimed at promoting Trimbakeshwar as a major religious and cultural tourism destination, both nationally and internationally.

With this classification, Trimbakeshwar will now be prioritized for tourism-focused development projects. The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) will spearhead infrastructure improvements, including better connectivity, modern facilities for pilgrims, upgraded sanitation, and improved crowd control mechanisms.

Deputy CM Fadnavis said, “Trimbakeshwar is not only a place of worship but also a site of rich heritage. Granting it ‘A’ grade status will ensure that the temple receives the attention it deserves in terms of infrastructure and services, enhancing the pilgrimage experience for lakhs of devotees.”

Officials stated that the government is committed to balancing development with ecological preservation, especially since the temple is located near the origin of the Godavari River. Special attention will be given to environmental sustainability during future development works.

The tourism tag is also expected to provide an economic boost to the region, creating new employment opportunities and supporting local businesses such as hospitality services, transport providers, and artisans. Local stakeholders have welcomed the decision, saying it could significantly raise the profile of Nashik on the national tourism map.

Religious leaders, tourism experts, and cultural organizations have also praised the move. They believe the upgraded status will attract more domestic and foreign tourists, especially during festivals like Shravan Somvar and the Kumbh Mela, which draw millions of devotees to the town.

This development is part of a broader initiative by the state government to promote religious tourism across Maharashtra. Other important pilgrimage centers such as Pandharpur, Shirdi, and Ashtavinayak temples have also been included in strategic plans for spiritual tourism circuits.

The MTDC is also exploring options like guided heritage walks, multilingual apps for visitors, and virtual temple tours to enhance the overall experience.
