August 25,2025:
A woman was allegedly burnt alive by her husband and in-laws in Greater Noida over dowry demands. Police said the incident occurred in Dankaur area late Friday night.
The victim, identified as Nikki (26), had been married to Vipin since 2016. According to the complaint filed by her sister Kanchan, despite providing a Scorpio car and other dowry items at the time of marriage, the in-laws continued to demand ₹35–36 lakh in cash.
On the night of the incident, Nikki was allegedly beaten, doused with inflammable liquid and set on fire. A video of the attack has surfaced showing the woman being dragged before being burnt. Her six-year-old son, who witnessed the crime, later told police that his mother was slapped and set ablaze with a lighter.
Nikki was rushed to Fortis Hospital, Greater Noida, and later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where she succumbed to injuries during transfer.
Based on Kanchan’s complaint, Kasna police registered an FIR against four persons — husband Vipin, mother-in-law Daya, father-in-law Satveer and brother-in-law Rohit — under IPC Sections 304B (dowry death) and 498A (cruelty by husband or relatives). Vipin has been arrested, while the others are absconding.
Police said the viral video is being examined for authenticity and teams have been deployed to trace the absconding accused. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
The incident has sparked outrage in the region, with women’s rights groups demanding strict action and speedy trial. Authorities have assured that the investigation will be conducted on priority.
