Woman Naxalite Injured in Premature IED Blast in Bijapur; Abandoned by Comrades

A female Maoist insurgent sustained serious injuries on Saturday in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district when an improvised explosive device (IED) she and her comrades were attempting to plant detonated prematurely. The injured insurgent, identified as Gujja Sodhi, was reportedly abandoned by her associates, who fled the scene with her weapon.

The explosion occurred in the dense forest area of Bandepara, under the jurisdiction of Madded Police Station in Bijapur district. According to police sources, a group of Maoists was in the process of planting an IED when it detonated unexpectedly, injuring one of their own.

Local villagers, who witnessed the incident, promptly alerted the authorities. A team from the Madded police station, in collaboration with the villagers, reached the site and provided immediate medical assistance to the injured Maoist. She was subsequently transported to the District Hospital in Bijapur for further treatment.

Reports indicate that after the blast, Gujja Sodhi’s comrades fled the scene, taking her weapon with them and leaving her behind in the forest. This abandonment highlights the perilous and often ruthless nature of insurgent operations in the region.

This incident underscores the ongoing volatility in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, a region frequently affected by Maoist insurgent activities. In recent months, there have been multiple instances of IED blasts targeting both security forces and civilians.

In a related development, on October 2, 2025, 103 Maoists surrendered in Bijapur district, marking one of the largest mass surrenders in the region. Among those who surrendered, 49 carried a collective bounty of ₹1.06 crore on their heads. This event was seen as a significant setback to both the operational strength and ideological stance of the outlawed CPI (Maoist).

The premature detonation of the IED and the subsequent abandonment of Gujja Sodhi by her comrades reflect the harsh realities faced by individuals involved in insurgent activities. It also highlights the challenges faced by security forces and local communities in addressing the Maoist insurgency in Chhattisgarh. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of the region’s inhabitants.
