Yogi Govt Fast-Tracks Jhansi Mega Township Project to Boost UP’s $1-Trillion Economy Vision

Jhansi industrial township

19 July,2025:
The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has accelerated the development of a massive industrial township in Jhansi as part of its strategic goal to transform the state into a $1-trillion economy by 2029. Spread across 56,662 acres and 33 villages, the proposed township in the Bundelkhand region is being positioned as a future industrial and urban powerhouse—larger in scale than Noida.

The project, overseen by the Bundelkhand Industrial Development Authority (BIDA), is one of the largest industrial expansion initiatives in the country. According to state officials, it will feature cutting-edge infrastructure, smart urban planning, and eco-friendly systems designed to attract major investments in manufacturing, defense, logistics, IT, and renewable energy sectors.

“This is not just a township, but a transformative step for Bundelkhand and the state. It will create lakhs of jobs and elevate Jhansi to a global investment destination,” said an official from the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA).

Initial groundwork, including land acquisition and compensation procedures, has begun across multiple villages. Authorities claim the process is being carried out with fairness and transparency, assuring that affected families will receive adequate rehabilitation and resettlement benefits.

However, the project has come under criticism from Opposition parties and local farmer groups, who allege that the government is moving too quickly without addressing key concerns. Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP government of prioritising industrial interests over people’s welfare.

“The voices of farmers and villagers are being ignored. This is a land grab under the garb of development,” Yadav said during a recent public meeting.

Several activists have echoed similar concerns, demanding greater clarity on environmental impact assessments and long-term benefits for local residents. Reports of protests and resistance have surfaced in areas where demarcation work is ongoing.

Despite the criticism, the Yogi government remains determined to push forward. Officials say the township will be highlighted as a flagship project in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit, aimed at showcasing the state’s readiness for large-scale industrial investments.

Urban planning experts have welcomed the project’s potential but caution that execution will be critical. “This could be a model industrial city if implemented properly,” said urban economist Dr. Neelam Saxena. “But it must be inclusive, sustainable, and transparent to avoid becoming another stalled mega project.”

As development gains momentum, the Jhansi township is expected to redefine Bundelkhand’s economic landscape and play a central role in Uttar Pradesh’s ambitious industrialisation drive.
