Renowned Indian singer and musician Zubeen Garg tragically passed away today at the age of 52 following a scuba diving accident in Singapore. Garg, widely acclaimed for his contributions to Assamese, Bollywood, and regional Indian music, was in Singapore to perform at the North East India Festival scheduled for September 20–21.
According to reports, Garg fell into the sea during a recreational diving excursion. He was promptly rescued and taken to Singapore General Hospital, where medical efforts to save him were unsuccessful. Authorities have confirmed his death, marking the loss of one of India’s most versatile and beloved musical talents.
Born in Tura, Meghalaya, Zubeen Garg began his musical journey at a young age and became a prominent figure in both regional and national music scenes. He gained nationwide recognition in 2006 with the Bollywood hit “Ya Ali” from the film Gangster. Over the years, his melodious voice featured in popular Hindi tracks such as “Dil Tu Hi Bata,” “Jaane Kya Chahe Mann Bawra,” and “Dilruba” from Namastey London.
