6 Kg Ganja Seized, Three from Solapur Arrested by Pune Police

Ganja seizure Pune

June 27: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Pune Police on Tuesday seized 6 kilograms of ganja and arrested three individuals from Solapur who were allegedly involved in transporting the narcotic substance into the city.

The operation was carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Pune City Police Crime Branch following a tip-off about a consignment being brought into Pune for distribution. Acting swiftly, the police laid a trap and intercepted a vehicle at the outskirts of the city. Upon searching the vehicle, officers found 6 kg of ganja concealed within.

The accused, all residents of Solapur district, were taken into custody at the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that the trio was part of an inter-district drug trafficking network. The seized ganja is estimated to have a market value of over ₹1.2 lakh.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amol Zende confirmed the arrests and stated that the police are now probing deeper into the network. “We believe these accused are connected to a larger syndicate operating between Solapur and Pune. Further investigation is underway to identify other members involved,” Zende said.

According to police sources, the ganja was procured from another state and was intended for distribution among local peddlers in Pune. The accused reportedly used private vehicles and remote routes to avoid detection by law enforcement agencies.

The arrested individuals have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. They were produced before a local magistrate and have been remanded to police custody.

This incident is one among several recent anti-drug operations carried out by Pune Police, who have intensified surveillance and monitoring along inter-district routes. Authorities have also appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity related to drug trafficking.

The police have assured that efforts to dismantle such networks will continue and that strict action will be taken against those involved in the illegal narcotics trade.
