Anderson Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago won the men’s javelin gold at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Thursday with a season-best throw of 88.16 meters (289.24 feet).
Two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada took silver with a mark of 87.38 meters, while Curtis Peterson of the United States claimed bronze with 86.67 meters.
Walcott’s victory came in a tightly contested final, with all three medalists throwing beyond 86 meters. The Trinidadian athlete’s performance highlighted his consistency and technical skill, earning him his first world championship title.
The win marks a significant milestone for Walcott and adds to the Caribbean’s growing reputation in the javelin discipline. Analysts noted that the high-level competition demonstrated the sport’s increasing global depth, with multiple athletes delivering near-personal-best performances.
With this achievement, Walcott strengthens his position ahead of future international meets, setting a benchmark for his rivals and inspiring a new generation of javelin throwers.
