Prominent industrialist Gautam Adani, accompanied by his family, took part in the Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025 in Puri, Odisha, on Saturday. Their visit added spiritual and public interest to one of India’s most iconic religious events, which draws a massive influx of pilgrims from across the globe each year.
The Jagannath Rath Yatra, a centuries-old festival, celebrates the divine journey of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra from the main shrine to the Gundicha Temple in specially crafted chariots. This year, lakhs of devotees gathered in the coastal city to witness the sacred procession, which is known for its grandeur and deep religious significance.
Gautam Adani, dressed in traditional Indian attire, was seen offering prayers and joining the devotees in pulling the chariot—a symbolic act considered sacred by many followers of Lord Jagannath. His family too engaged in rituals with devotion, marking their respect for Odisha’s rich cultural heritage.
In a brief message shared via social media, Adani expressed his spiritual sentiments, noting that the event represents “India’s timeless devotion and cultural unity.” The post received widespread appreciation, with many applauding the business leader’s involvement in such a spiritually significant occasion.
Security arrangements for the event were comprehensive, with over 10,000 security personnel deployed across key points in the city. Emergency services, medical camps, water kiosks, and crowd control measures were put in place to ensure a safe and smooth experience for the visitors. Local officials estimate that more than 1.5 million pilgrims were present for this year’s Yatra.
Sources associated with the event noted that the Adani Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the group, had also contributed to the arrangements by setting up hydration points and first-aid services for the convenience of pilgrims.
Religious scholars praised the growing involvement of public figures in traditional events, stating that such participation helps promote India’s spiritual traditions among younger generations. “It’s encouraging to see modern leaders upholding age-old beliefs,” remarked a temple official.
The participation of the Adani family in this major religious festival highlighted how India’s corporate leaders continue to remain connected with the nation’s cultural roots. As the chariots moved forward amid chants and music, the event symbolized unity, devotion, and tradition.
