August 28, 2025: Google has unveiled its latest advancement in artificial intelligence image editing, codenamed “Nano Banana”, officially known as Gemini 2.5 Flash Image. The model has been integrated into the Gemini app, offering users unprecedented precision in AI-powered photo manipulation.
Developed by Google DeepMind, Nano Banana is designed to maintain character consistency across edits, ensuring that people, pets, and objects retain their appearance even after multiple modifications. This feature addresses a long-standing challenge in AI image editing, where subjects often change unpredictably across iterations.
In addition to maintaining consistency, Nano Banana supports multi-turn editing, allowing users to make sequential changes to images while preserving the integrity of the original scene. Users can, for instance, gradually add or alter elements in a room or landscape, with each adjustment seamlessly integrated.
Another notable capability is image blending and style mixing. The AI model enables the fusion of multiple images into a single composition and allows textures or patterns from one image to be applied to objects in another. These features enhance creative flexibility and simplify complex content creation tasks.
To expand accessibility, Google has partnered with Adobe to integrate Gemini 2.5 Flash Image into Adobe Firefly, Firefly Boards, and Adobe Express. Free users of the Gemini app can generate up to 20 AI images, while paid Firefly and Creative Cloud Pro subscribers enjoy unlimited access.
In line with ethical AI practices, Google ensures transparency by incorporating SynthID watermarks in all AI-generated images, clearly indicating their artificial origin. This measure seeks to prevent misuse and uphold ethical standards in digital content.
