Pune Police Implement Extensive Traffic Management for Ganeshotsav 2025

Pune Ganeshotsav 2025 traffic

August 28, 2025 – Pune is gearing up for Ganeshotsav 2025, and the city police have unveiled a detailed traffic management plan to handle the expected crowds and large processions. The measures, which began on August 25, will remain in effect until September 6, the day of the final immersion.

Road Closures and Diversions

To ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of devotees, several key roads in central Pune will be closed or partially restricted. Shivaji Road, between Gadital Putla Chowk and Gotiram Bhaiyya Chowk, will be closed for the duration of the festival. Other important roads affected include Shastri Road, Tilak Road, and Laxmi Road. Motorists traveling from Shivajinagar to Swargate via Jangali Maharaj Road are advised to follow designated diversion routes at SG Barve Chowk. Police have urged citizens to plan travel ahead of time to avoid delays.

Parking and Traffic Management

Dedicated parking areas have been set up near major Ganesh mandals to accommodate the large number of visitors. Police personnel will guide vehicles to these parking spots to prevent congestion. Traffic control teams will be stationed at key intersections to manage the flow of vehicles efficiently.

Public Transport Measures

The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) will run over 900 extra buses during the festival period. Of these, 620 buses will operate continuously on September 5 and 6. Night services will be available at an additional charge of Rs. 10, with passes not valid after midnight. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has also arranged approximately 5,000 additional buses to meet travel demand to the Konkan region and other areas.

Metro Service Extension

Pune Metro will extend its operating hours to ease travel during the festival. From August 30 to September 5, trains will run from 6 am to 2 am. On Anant Chaturdashi, September 6, a 41-hour continuous service will be in operation, allowing devotees to travel to immersion sites without interruption.

Safety and Civic Preparations

Pune Police have deployed 11 teams to inspect roads, streetlights, and CCTV cameras along procession routes. The teams will also address civic issues such as potholes or other obstacles to ensure public safety and smooth proceedings during the festival.

Digital Support for Devotees

To help the public navigate the city efficiently, the police have launched a ‘Digital Road Map’ that provides real-time updates on road closures, diversions, and parking arrangements. This platform will assist residents and visitors in planning their routes during the celebrations.

Conclusion

With these comprehensive measures in place, Pune Police aim to maintain order and safety during Ganeshotsav 2025. Devotees are encouraged to follow official guidance, cooperate with authorities, and enjoy the festivities responsibly.
