In a powerful act of compassion and solidarity, renowned philanthropist and healthcare entrepreneur Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil has pledged ₹1 crore each to the families of two BJ Medical College students who tragically lost their lives in a recent road accident in Pune. The gesture has drawn widespread appreciation across the country, highlighting the importance of empathy and support during moments of profound grief.
The two students, identified as first-year MBBS students at BJ Government Medical College in Pune, died after a luxury Porsche car—allegedly driven by a 17-year-old in an inebriated state—crashed into their two-wheeler on the night of May 19. The incident sparked national outrage due to the juvenile driver’s influential background and the initially lenient legal response.
Dr. Shamsheer, Chairman and Managing Director of VPS Healthcare, announced the financial aid through social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“It was heartbreaking to see the dreams of these two young girls being taken away in such a tragic way. I am pledging ₹1 crore each to their families, hoping it helps them in this difficult time.”
The philanthropist, who hails from Kerala and is based in the UAE, is known for his charitable initiatives across education, health, and disaster relief. With this pledge, Dr. Shamsheer not only provided financial support but also sparked a larger conversation about justice, youth responsibility, and road safety in India.
