12 September,2025 -The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released new surveillance footage as part of an ongoing nationwide manhunt for the suspect who fatally shot conservative activist Charlie Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University earlier this week. The assassination has drawn widespread attention and sparked urgent calls for greater protection against political violence in the United States.
Charlie Kirk, 31, the founder of Turning Point USA, was speaking to thousands of attendees at a “Prove Me Wrong” debate stop in Orem, Utah, on September 10 when he was struck by a single rifle shot to the neck. The shot, fired from a rooftop nearly 200 yards away, proved fatal despite immediate emergency response.
Law enforcement officers recovered a high-powered bolt-action rifle near a wooded area close to the university campus. Investigators also collected shoe prints, a palm print, and a forearm impression from the rooftop, which they believe was used as the sniper’s position. These findings suggest careful planning, according to officials familiar with the case.
In newly released video, authorities highlighted a person of interest seen fleeing the scene. The individual, described as wearing dark clothing, a baseball cap, sunglasses, and carrying a backpack, was also noted to have been wearing distinctive Converse sneakers and an American flag-patterned shirt. Officials hope that the footage will help generate critical leads.
The FBI confirmed that more than 7,000 tips have already been submitted by the public, and over 200 interviews have been conducted since the incident. More than 20 federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies are working jointly on the investigation. Officials have not yet named a suspect but emphasized that every available resource is being deployed to bring the perpetrator to justice.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox condemned the killing, calling it a “political assassination” and urging citizens to reject political violence. The governor’s statement was echoed by national leaders across the political spectrum, who expressed shock at the attack and concern over its implications for public safety during an election year.
The FBI has asked anyone with information about the suspect or the released footage to come forward immediately. Authorities also announced a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to an arrest. Security has been increased at upcoming political and public events in Utah and surrounding states as investigators continue their search.
Kirk’s assassination has intensified the national debate over rising political tensions and the vulnerability of high-profile public figures. Analysts warn that the incident may deepen divisions while underscoring the need for enhanced security measures at political gatherings.
The manhunt remains ongoing, with investigators urging vigilance from the public. “This suspect remains armed and dangerous,” an FBI spokesperson said. “We need the community’s help to bring this individual into custody and prevent any further violence.”
