July 25,2025 — In a significant development poised to bolster India’s digital future, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday announced that global technology giant Google will establish its largest data centre outside the United States in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing a press gathering, the Chief Minister hailed the announcement as a “historic milestone” in the state’s technological evolution and stated that the project would mark a turning point in India’s digital infrastructure. “Visakhapatnam shall soon be home to Google’s largest data facility outside American soil,” Mr. Naidu declared. “It is not merely a data centre, but a symbol of Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to progress, innovation, and digital leadership.”

A Strategic Move in the East
Visakhapatnam, also known as Vizag, has long been viewed as a key node in India’s digital and industrial map. With its advantageous coastal location and expanding infrastructure, the city has steadily grown into a hub for emerging technologies.

Sources familiar with the matter indicated that the new data centre will serve not only Indian clientele but also the broader Asia-Pacific region. Though Google has not yet disclosed the investment figure, officials suggest it may be among the largest technology investments in the state’s history.

Infrastructure and Economic Impact
The Chief Minister assured that the state government would provide full cooperation in the form of land, regulatory clearances, and infrastructure support. Efforts are already underway to strengthen high-speed fibre networks, power supply chains, and transport logistics in anticipation of the project’s execution.

Officials noted that the facility will employ cutting-edge systems and focus heavily on sustainable operations, with a particular emphasis on renewable energy and carbon-neutral practices.

“This project shall usher in thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities,” Mr. Naidu added. “It will also serve as a beacon for global firms seeking to invest in a digitally forward India.”

Alignment with National Goals
The project is seen as being in close alignment with the Central Government’s Digital India mission, aimed at making the country digitally empowered in terms of technology, governance, and services.

Industry watchers view the move as a strategic effort by Google to enhance its footprint in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital economies. With data consumption surging across the country and regulatory norms increasingly favouring local storage, India has become a vital market for cloud infrastructure providers.

Looking Ahead
With this announcement, Andhra Pradesh joins a select group of regions worldwide hosting Google’s core infrastructure. The project is expected to not only catalyse local economic growth but also contribute meaningfully to the country’s vision of becoming a global digital leader.
