August 22, 2025: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that five matches of the Women’s ODI World Cup, originally scheduled at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, will now take place at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium. The change was made following safety concerns at the Bengaluru venue.
The tournament is set to begin on September 30, 2025, and the DY Patil Stadium, which can accommodate around 45,000 spectators, is regarded as well-prepared to host international cricket events. The venue has previously handled both domestic and global matches, offering modern facilities and infrastructure for players and fans alike.
Authorities in Karnataka reviewed the Bengaluru stadium after a prior incident highlighted potential safety risks. Following this assessment, the state government withdrew clearance for the stadium to host World Cup matches, prompting the ICC to select an alternative venue.
According to the updated schedule, Navi Mumbai will host two group-stage matches featuring the Indian team, including encounters against New Zealand and Bangladesh. In addition, the stadium is expected to host the second semi-final on October 30 and could potentially host the final on November 2, depending on the results of the earlier rounds.
ICC officials emphasized that player and spectator safety remains a top priority and said that the change would ensure smooth conduct of the tournament. They noted that DY Patil Stadium’s facilities are fully capable of meeting international standards for high-profile matches.
Cricket enthusiasts are advised to follow official ICC sources for information on tickets, match timings, and other event-related updates.
