IIT Bombay Emerges as Top Choice for JEE Advanced 2025 Top 100 Rankers

IIT Bombay

June 17 – The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has been ranked as the most preferred institution among the top 100 rank holders in the JEE Advanced 2025, according to the latest figures released by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). A total of 67 students from this elite group have selected IIT Bombay as their first preference, reinforcing its position as a premier destination for engineering education in India.

The institute’s flagship program, Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), remains the most in-demand course, chosen by the majority of top scorers. The preference for this program is largely driven by its strong academic framework, cutting-edge research facilities, and high placement records, both within India and globally.

IIT Delhi followed as the second most popular choice, with 28 of the top 100 candidates listing it as their preferred institute. Other IITs, such as IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur, received fewer preferences in comparison. This year’s data reflects a consistent trend, as IIT Bombay has remained the leading choice among top JEE rankers for several consecutive years.

One of the key reasons behind IIT Bombay’s popularity is its location in Mumbai, a major technology and financial hub. Students benefit from close proximity to top corporations, research institutions, and startup ecosystems. Additionally, the institute’s strong alumni network, global recognition, and support for entrepreneurship contribute to its rising appeal.

The JoSAA counselling process, which is conducted annually for admissions into IITs and other premier technical institutes, began shortly after the JEE Advanced 2025 results were announced. This year’s exam, held on June 2, saw over 1.9 lakh aspirants, with approximately 48,000 qualifying for IIT admissions.

Education experts note that the preferences of top rankers often reflect wider academic and career trends. In recent years, demand for courses in computer science, artificial intelligence, and data science has grown rapidly, with students opting for institutions that offer strong industry connections and international exposure.

In addition to academic reputation, IIT Bombay is also known for its student-friendly campus, vibrant extracurricular culture, and emphasis on interdisciplinary learning. The institute’s innovation and incubation initiatives, including the Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), have played a vital role in promoting startups and research projects among students.

As the seat allocation process continues over the coming weeks, IIT Bombay’s position at the top sends a clear message about its influence on India’s technical education landscape. With a blend of academic excellence and real-world opportunities, the institute remains a leading choice for the country’s brightest engineering aspirants.
