7 July, 2025-Apple’s upcoming flagship device, the iPhone 17 Pro Max, is expected to feature the largest battery ever seen in an iPhone, according to recent reports from supply chain insiders and tech analysts. The smartphone is rumored to come equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery, a significant upgrade from previous models and a first for the tech giant.
The current iPhone 15 Pro Max features a 4,422 mAh battery, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max, anticipated to launch later this year, is expected to offer a slightly larger capacity. However, if the 5,000 mAh rumor proves accurate, the iPhone 17 Pro Max could mark a major shift in Apple’s design priorities—focusing more heavily on battery longevity and performance.
Analysts suggest that the enhanced battery capacity will likely be complemented by the introduction of Apple’s new A19 Pro chip, based on an advanced 2nm process. The chip is expected to deliver improved power efficiency, enabling the larger battery to support extended usage across a range of demanding tasks such as gaming, 4K video recording, and AI-powered features.
Despite the increase in battery size, Apple is reportedly working on integrating stacked battery technology to ensure the device remains sleek and lightweight. This next-generation battery design allows for more energy-dense cells within a compact form factor. Combined with the use of lightweight materials like titanium, which Apple introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro models, the iPhone 17 Pro Max may avoid the typical trade-off between battery size and device weight.
Industry experts believe this move is intended to help Apple compete with Android smartphone manufacturers, many of whom have offered 5,000 mAh batteries for several years. The update could also respond to growing consumer demand for smartphones that deliver reliable, all-day battery life without the need for frequent charging.
In addition to battery improvements, Apple is expected to enhance charging speeds and thermal management in the iPhone 17 lineup. USB-C charging, along with the company’s proprietary MagSafe system, is expected to remain a key feature. Apple may also incorporate environmentally friendly materials in the battery’s construction, aligning with its broader sustainability goals.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is anticipated to be unveiled in September 2025, as part of Apple’s annual fall event. While the company has not confirmed any specifications, leaks from suppliers and component manufacturers continue to build excitement around what could be Apple’s most powerful and user-focused smartphone to date.
