Mysuru, Karnataka – In anticipation of the 416th Mysuru Dasara festival, the city’s police department has introduced a comprehensive crowd safety plan to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the event. With major attractions like the Jumboo Savari, Yuva Dasara, and palace programs drawing large crowds, authorities have prioritized advanced technology and meticulous coordination to prevent stampede-like incidents.
Strategic Deployment of Technology and Resources
To bolster surveillance and crowd management, the police have implemented a two-phase security strategy. This includes the installation of 200 CCTV cameras at critical locations such as Chamundi Hill, Mysore Palace, and Bannimantap. Additionally, footage from over 34,000 private cameras will be integrated into a centralized monitoring system, allowing for real-time oversight of public spaces. Drone surveillance will also be employed to monitor crowd movements and identify potential risks from an aerial perspective.
To address emergency medical needs, 26 ambulances and 32 fire trucks have been stationed at key event venues. Public address systems have been set up at 43 strategic points to disseminate important safety information and updates to the public.
Enhanced Crowd Control Measures
Recognizing the challenges posed by large gatherings, the police have enforced stricter crowd control protocols. Spectators have been advised against climbing onto old and unsafe buildings to view the Jumboo Savari procession, following incidents in previous years where such actions led to accidents. Barricades and designated holding areas have been established to regulate crowd flow and prevent congestion.
Furthermore, authorities have introduced ticketing systems at high-traffic venues like the Mysore Palace and Banni Mantap to control audience sizes and ensure safety during the torchlight parade.
Comprehensive Public Awareness Campaign
In addition to physical measures, the police have launched a public awareness campaign to educate attendees on safety protocols. A specially designed booklet outlining safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and the roles of security personnel has been distributed to the public. This initiative aims to empower citizens with the knowledge needed to respond effectively in case of emergencies.
